Podcasting Revolution on FOX12 News, Sort Of
I'm sitting here, flipping through the channels, and one of the teasers for FOX12 news (KPTV.com) said "Think your iPod is just for music? Ahead, a look at the podcasting revolution..."
It's really weird to see mainstream media (and it doesn't get more hometown mass market mainstream media than the local nightly news) take notice of podcasting.
I'll be watching to see what they say about podcasting. Was anyone contacted or involved in the story?
EDIT: What a freaking disappointment. It was all the way at the end of the news. It didn't mention anything about automatic downloading via RSS. It didn't mention a single Portland area podcast. The only one it mentioned was from a liquor store, apparently in Dallas. The only URL they kept showing on screen was exit50 dot com (never heard of it).
No mention of iPodder. No metntion of Adam Curry (or Dave Winer), or anyone else I've ever heard of in the podcasting world. I don't claim to know everything, but I listen to a lot of podcasts, and read a lot of podcast-related blogs, and it's almost as if they TRIED to create this story in a vacuum.
Why, KPTV, why? There is a thriving, diverse, and cutting edge podcasting scene right here in Portland. Heck, most of us are on the west side, near the FOX12 studios! We have open meetups once a
*sigh*
I guess it's my fault for getting my hopes up that the mainstream media will bother to actually get the facts and do a real story, rather than just regurgitate what they get from their affiliates (in Dallas) as if it were local news.
Anna, do you know any of these, um, fine individuals? Any local news station reading this, if you want to do a real, interesting, and accurate story, you've got a ton of people doing podcasts (some might even say pioneers) right in your own backyard. Come check out our next meetup, and chat with us. Any one of us would be happy to give you the scoop on what podcasting is REALLY about.

I was able to get on National TV. HA
Its a long story on how that got in to the News feed. Id like to consider my self a pioneer sort of. Im always trying out new things on my show and I listen to many shows.
PS I read a book on how to get free publicty and I guess it works. Also if you check out exit50.com you will see Im not a hack in the podcast arena. Its all good. THanks for the post

Hello that was a national run it was not from your local area. AC is not the only podcaster in the world geez

I realize that it was a national piece that they syndicated, and I didn't mean to seem like I was crapping on the podcast and site that they mentioned.
It's just frustrating to see a news channel choose to syndicate something that's a lot less relevant to their viewers than something they could put together themselves, using local resources.
Besides, a guy's got to pimp the Portland Podcasting scene, right? ;-)
